At Dogs of Australia, we pride ourselves on being an independent small business, and our research and content creation is completely unbiased. 

In simple terms, we’re a bunch of dog nerds who are passionate about helping other dog owners find the best things to do and products to buy across Australia. 

Now, as great as love and passion are, they don’t pay our monthly bills to operate this platform. So, we’ve joined a few affiliate partnerships and because we believe in transparency on the web, below is an in-depth explanation about how this works ✌️

Here’s how this works:

When we recommend a product to you, our recommendations are often (but not always) supported through an affiliate commission that we earn when you make a purchase. It’s a small percentage, paid by the retailer, and it comes at no extra cost for you.

To give you an example – we wrote a pretty long article about dog harnesses. Throughout our research (which often takes weeks), we found a clear winner for the best harness, recommended by many dog trainers and vets.

There is no partnership program available for that harness, but we still recommended it as the best product we could find based on our research, and we also explain how you can best purchase it locally. 

In that same article, we also recommend the next best harness we found, and the easiest way to purchase it is through Amazon. Since we’re Amazon Associates*, we will earn an affiliate commission if you buy the harness based on our recommendation. So, in short: our recommendations are based on unbiased research, but if there’s a partnership programme available, we’ll use it. 

It’s important to note that this comes at no extra cost to you. Also, if you’re not happy with your purchase and you decide to return the product, we make nothing. So, there’s no incentive for us to pick inferior products – in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

We think that’s a pretty fair system that keeps us committed to always serving our readers first, rather than having to respond to pressure from elsewhere.
